Chicago Public Media® produced a captivating report in collaboration with NPR's Planet Money® about the threat of patent trolls to technological innovation. The derogatory term "patent troll" first popped up in the Silicon Valley to describe a new sector of companies that accumulate thrives of patents and make money by threatening lawsuits. The purchase and sale of patents is likely to continue being a huge, controversial business that affects the entire tech industry.
