Laird Cloud Article Published in August Issue of ECN

Medical Devices Connected to a Cloud Infrastructure

An article written by Product Manager Chris Downey of Laird Technologies was published in the August issue of ECN. The article, titled Migrating legacy M2M systems to the cloud, covers the hot topic of machine-to-machine (M2M) applications and their migration to the cloud, or what is sometimes referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT).

The article defines IoT and how the migration of legacy applications to the cloud requires a change in perspective. Chris Downey writes, “Everything is now global, so a system cannot be contained to a single network but must be viewed from the perspective of how all networks will communicate.”

Downey also discusses key issues such as Addressing, Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP), Security, and Architecture.
