Introducing the i-FlexPIFA – Inverted Flexible PIFA Antenna

A New Offering in our Popular FlexPIFA Series

Ezurio (formerly Laird Connectivity) has recently announced the i-FlexPIFA series of 2.4 GHz antennas, a new offering in our FlexPIFA series. FlexPIFA antennas are patented, industry-first flexible planar inverted f-type antennas that mount directly to product enclosures via a peel-and-stick adhesive. They require no additional ground plane, making integration into an enclosure extremely easy with unparalleled performance.

FlexPIFA antennas are an excellent option for integrating Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity into a product with the simplest integration efforts. Our previous FlexPIFA offerings offer support for 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz frequency bands like those required for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6. Our FlexMIMO series are FlexPIFA antennas that integrate two antennas into one peel-and-stick package, making MIMO integration a breeze without requiring OEMs to consider optimal orientation, spacing, and placement.

The i-FlexPIFA, with support for 2.4 GHz frequencies, is different from previous offerings because it reorients the adhesive to the opposite side of the antenna. Where previous FlexPIFA offerings featured a bottom-facing adhesive best suited for mounting to the bottom or rear side of an enclosure, the i FlexPIFA adhesive is on the top or front-facing side for direct mounting to the top or front face of the inside of an enclosure. This brings the antenna closer to the exterior of an enclosure without detuning or other negative effects.

Beyond this, the i-FlexPIFA also outperforms solutions from competing manufacturers by providing this mount orientation with the best performance and reliability possible. The i-FlexPIFA achieves this with 3.4 dB gain and 2.5:1 VSWR, yielding exceptional performance to go with its ease of integration. Because of the clever PIFA design, this is possible even in proximity to metal or to the human body, conditions that can prove challenging for other solutions.

Our FlexPIFA antennas are designed and built to exacting specifications that meet our customers’ performance needs and fit into space-constrained applications typical of IoT and other devices. Designed for -40° to +80°C, the i-FlexPIFA is suited for challenging environments and is available with commonly-used MHF1 or MHF4 connectors.
