Heinrich Rudolf Hertz

Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, (February 22, 1857 – January 1, 1894) was a German physicist who built on the electromagnetic wave theory first put forth by James Clerk Maxwell. Hertz was the first to demonstrate the existence of electromagnetic waves traveling through free space by building transmitters, receivers, and the first dipole antenna. The unit of wave oscillation, Hertz (Hz), is named for the pioneer.
